NEW road works are being carried out in Winchester city centre, to get rid of a near-permanent puddle.
The work is being carried out on St George’s Street, to the rear of Marks and Spencer, and is being carried out by Hampshire Highways.
According to one.network, the work is to remove ponding issues and realign gullies along a section of pavement. Kerbstones will also be put in and the level raised to stop puddles forming.
A new kerb will also be installed from one of the bus stops to the Marks and Spencer loading bay. The bus stops are closed until the work is completed.

The work is being carried out in response to a persistent puddle near the bus stops, which has been highlighted in the Hampshire Chronicle’s recurring Belgarum column.
This puddle has been present in one form or another since 2022 and has been caused by an installed drain being higher than the surrounding pavement.
During its lifetime, the puddle has been a mini-ice rink, hosted ducks and been a litter depository.
One.network is estimating that the work will be completed on Wednesday, February 28.
A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said: "Hampshire County Council is working to improve the highway drainage in this area to reduce excess surface water on the road at times of high and persistent rainfall.
"The work began on 25 February and is expected to be completed by the end of the week."
Marks and Spencer has been contacted because the work is disrupting their deliveries
